Drones are interesting machines not only for recreational flights. You will be amazed at how many intriguing facts there are around them.
The sky is no longer just a place exclusively for birds and planes flying. If you think about it, you have to agree that when you see a drone in the sky, you are not so impressed anymore. This is because drones have already become a part of our lives, and if you have one, you probably know some basic facts about it, as well as a few useful applications of these machines. However, we are sure that there are a few interesting facts that you may not be familiar with. Here are some interesting facts about drones that will impress you:
1. The first drone was invented in 1989 by Nikola Tesla.
The creator of the drone believed that his invention would make the world a better place and help stop wars around the world. Even before that, Nikola Tesla created impressive models of robots. Known to the world for his incredible electric car projects, as well, the genius has proven many times that he was way ahead of his time. Tesla can deservedly be proud to have more than 270 patents in 27 countries. We should also be grateful to this great scientist for creating the drone.
2. Drones are indispensable helpers for people to afforest, deal with fires and observe plant species.
With the help of drones, it is possible for up-to-date information on large areas to be collected and 3D maps to be created. That way, people can take adequate and timely measures for the protection and development of nature. Innovative software solutions help to convey information about soil conditions and tree growth. Thanks to these small unmanned flying machines, it is possible to plant 100,000 trees in one day. Tesla was certainly right that his invention could help the world deal with some of humanity's problems. Today we can confirm that drones have numerous useful applications, some of which are also helping to combat climate change and developing urbanization.
3. Drones can help in to detect the polluted air.
On January 23, 2018, was performed the first flight measuring the condition of the air with a drone. Some drone models have sensors to accurately transmit air quality. There have also started the production of drones specializing in the monitoring of industrial and water pollution. They are an accessible and effective solution in dealing with pollution on our planet.
4. The European Commission's forecasts are for the drone industry to provide many jobs.
According to the European Commission, until 2050 around 150,000 workplaces are expected to be created in the European Union thanks to drone production. The development of the drone industry is constant and at a high pace. This will contribute to the search and training of more and more workers to specialize in this field. Mainly sought will be operators and workers in the production and development of innovative achievements in machine technology.
5. “Drone Handi” - drones that can be piloted by people with disabilities.
A project of a digital agency and a French association has enabled people with disabilities not only to feel this incredible flying experience but also to get a chance for professional realization as drone operators.
6. The first drone ever built was in Israel.
In 1973 Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) is developing the first drone, the IAI Scout, which works as an unmanned military surveillance machine. Today, Israel is the largest exporter of defence drones and drone technologies in the world. IAI sells to more than twenty countries around the world. Israel, the United States and China are the largest drone manufacturers. Other countries are also trying to produce drones, but they are not as successful because of the high-quality technology that leaders maintain in production.
7. The first armed drones were built to kill wanted terrorists.
During the new millennium, the armed drone Predator was sent to search for Osama bin Laden. A month after the 9/11 attacks, the MQ-1 drone attacked Al Qaeda military chief Mohammed Atef by bombing his home in Afghanistan. This is the first known murder with the help of an armed drone.
8. Insect-sized drones for search after earthquakes and other disasters will support rescue operations.
Scientists from TU Delft University in the Netherlands have created the smallest drone with a camera. The purpose of this invention is to discover the capabilities of flying insects. The drone is also designed for practical applications such as flying through cracks in buildings to search for victims of an earthquake or exploration of buildings contaminated with radioactivity. Military and spy agencies also see the potential of small drones as spies and scouts.
