DJI Mavic 3 is one of the best and most advanced drones on the market. Ever since its launch in 2021, it has impressed drone enthusiasts with its remarkable features.

This drone is great for photography and video capture because of its 20 MP resolution and 5.1K video. Its smart modes for avoiding obstacles in all directions and following moving objects make it very convenient and easy to control.

But can the DJI Mavic 3 take videos and photos during rain or snowfall? Is it waterproof, and how resistant is it to moisture in general? These are some of the most common questions users ask.

This article will try to answer these questions as thoroughly as possible. We will look at both the degree of water-resistance of the drone and the causes of failure and the likely damage that can occur when moisture or water enters its interior.

Is the Mavic 3 waterproof, and is there any way to improve its protection from moisture?

Mavic 3 is not completely waterproof. It has some protection from moisture, but this is no guarantee that the inside of the drone will stay dry when you fly in rainy weather. There is a high possibility that water will be able to reach the internal parts of the machine.

Can you still do something about it? Yes. You can use a wetsuit or silicone cover and thus improve the water-resistance of your drone. Don't rely on this, however, because these methods don't guarantee 100% protection either.

The DJI Mavic 3 does not have an IP rating, and this indicates that the device is not suitable for use in high humidity conditions.

Can you fly the Mavic 3 in the rain?

It is not recommended to fly in rain conditions with the DJI Mavic 3. However, if you decide to risk it and try piloting in light rain, be aware that even then, damage to the device may occur.

Why is damage possible if water gets into the drone?

In order to keep parts from overheating, vents are available on most drones. These allow air to enter the machine, so the parts are cooled. However, these vents can allow water to enter the interior. Once there, it poses a serious danger to electrical components.

There is a greater danger of water entering the drone from the combination of rain and wind if the drone falls into a body of water or even wet grass. On the Mavic 3, the air vents are located on the sides, which means that in the event of rain, droplets are very likely to enter the machine.

What can happen if you fly in rainy conditions?

As mentioned, water is very dangerous to the drone's electrical components. It can cause a short circuit or corrosion. In the first case, you will probably be able to detect the damage right away, but in the presence of corrosion, it can take up to several days or even months. By the time you identify the corrosion, it may already be too late.

Saltwater is even more dangerous for drones as it causes even more damage. It tends to corrode metal and can lead to irreparable consequences.

Other components that can be affected by water are the sensors, batteries and cameras of the drone.

Can you pilot the Mavic 3 in snowfall?

In snowfall, it is also not advisable to fly your drone as snow can also wet your drone. Also, in winter, temperatures are lower and if they drop below freezing, it can cause serious damage.

There are drone models that can't even take off in cold temperatures. Others, even if they take off, lose their battery charge very quickly.

In our article Tips for piloting a drone in winter, you can read about recommendations for flying in winter conditions.

In how low temperatures can you fly a drone?

It is not recommended to fly a drone, including the Mavic 3, below 0°C. DJI also recommends using landing pads and other protective gear to avoid snow getting into the drone.

In what wind speed can you fly Mavic 3?

It is recommended that you do not pilot the Mavic 3 at wind speeds higher than 43 km/h.

These waterproofing tips can reduce the likelihood of damage when you fly the drone during snowfall or rain, but remember that they cannot make the drone 100% waterproof.

If you can't afford to lose your drone or pay for multiple repairs, it's best to just pilot in dry and calm weather. In case your drone breaks down, remember that we have a professional repair service and are always available for you.
