Our drone management guide will prepare you for your first steps in flying and you will learn basic techniques to pilot safely.

If you are now taking your first steps in drone flying, you are probably having some difficulties. This is always normal when you start something new. So we decided to create this article to help prepare and inform you on how to fly a drone properly.

We recommend that you get additional propellers for your drone and tools to replace them. The other option is to get a drone with protectors. This will protect both yourself and your drone. Take preventive measures to mitigate potential property damage during landings as well.

Our suggestions for propellers and protectors can be viewed HERE.

Get extra batteries. Keep in mind that flying time may decrease significantly in heavy winds and especially when flying against their direction.

When you gain some experience in piloting, you will start controlling your drone with the controller without thinking too much.

During your very first attempts, always press on the sticks gently so that the drone does not make any sudden movements and takes off smoothly. When you get used to the movements, you can increase the pressure and maneuver better, but to avoid accidents, first make sure that you have full control over the device.

Here are the main motion controls:

The Roll stick moves your quadcopter left or right by pressing the right stick of your controller left or right.

Pitching is performed by pressing the right stick of your controller forwards or backwards. This will tilt the quadcopter, which will lead to a forward or backward movement.

Yaw will turn the quadcopter clockwise or counterclockwise. This is done by pressing the left stick left or right.

Pressing the left stick upwards or downwards gives the propellers of your quadcopter power to lift or drop in altitude. When you fly, you will be using the left stick constantly. When you have landed, hold the left stick downwards to power off the motors.

CHOOSING A SPOT FOR FLYING

It’s fairly logical, but still, don’t attempt to pilot a drone indoors. This is a prerequisite for an accident with you, your belongings, or your drone.

For your first attempts, choose a safe place, thus avoiding the possibility of mistakes. It should be an open area, such as a park or a field. An advantage is that if a crash occurs, the drone will be falling on grass and thus reducing damage.

In a densely populated area, it is more difficult to find a suitable space because you have to keep several different factors in mind. You have to be away from airports, keep everything safe, and at the same time interesting. Stay away from people and animals, because there may be serious injuries.

Always check if the weather is good for flying. In strong winds, you may easily lose control of the drone. The best time of day for flying is probably the morning.

IMPORTANT SAFETY MEASURES

Drones are flying mowers. If you are not careful, they can be very dangerous for you. Here are some precautions to follow:

  • If you are about to crash into something, release the sticks so you don’t destroy the drone or injure someone or yourself;
  • Keep your fingers away from the propellers if they are rotating.
  • Never fly directly over people unless you are a licensed professional and have the necessary permits.

DRONE MANAGEMENT STAGES

These steps will help you judge where you are now and what you need to do to improve your skills.

  • Learn the four main controls of the quadcopter - Roll, Pitch, Yaw and Throttle. They affect the drone’s movements.
Find out what the parts of your drone are and what each one does.
Prepare a pre-flight checklist and go through it before each takeoff.
    Learn all the safety precautions.
Use the left stick to take off and try all the possible movements and rotations.
Lift the drone at an altitude of a few meters and land it in the same place.
Learn how to draw a circle in the air with the drone.
Learn how to perform different maneuvers without interruptions in between.
Do everything above, but at a bigger height.

If you are a beginner in drone flying, we recommend that you read everything here and practice a lot until you gain confidence. Also, read your user manual carefully.
