Each DJI drone has its own unique serial number that identifies it. You might not assume how useful it is to know the serial number of your drone. In this article, we'll discuss what you need it for and where you can find it.
Where can you find the serial number of a drone?
You can find your drone's serial number in the following places:
● the drone packaging
● the bottom of the drone
● near the battery compartment
● in the battery compartment
● on the tail of the drone
The location of the drone serial number may vary from model to model. It's a good idea to have this number written down, in a place where you can find it easily. Another option is to take a picture with your phone.
What is the serial number?
Usually, the serial number of a drone is made up of 14 characters representing a combination of numbers and letters. Thanks to this unique number, each drone can be traced from the moment it was created.
Why is it good to know your drone's serial number?
The unique code of the drone is good to be saved and stored and you should always have access to it, as this is a way to identify it. You will need it:
● when repairing a drone
● for registration
● for routine maintenance
Let's take a closer look at the most common cases where you will need to provide your drone's identification code.
Registration
If your drone is heavier than 250 grams, it must be registered with the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority). You can do this at https://drones.caa.bg/. During registration you must enter the serial number of your drone.
In some cases, even if your drone is lighter than 250 grams, you must still register it. If you intend to use additional accessories that will increase the total weight, for example, you must register your device. When selling, you will also need to provide the serial number to the new owner so that they can register the drone.
Drone insurance
In case you decide to insure your drone with DJI Care, you will also need to provide the device's unique code. It will also be required from you in case of any claims.
Drone repairs
This isn't a pleasant moment, but it is possible tо happen to you. In the event of an accident, you may need to send your drone in for repairs. You will then need to include its serial number as information. It's especially important to have the number recorded if the part of the device it was written on is damaged and the inscription is obliterated. There is also a possibility that you may have lost the original packaging of the product.
Where can I find the serial number of my DJI drone?
As we mentioned at the beginning of the article, the location of the drone serial number can be different for different models. We will list the most popular DJI drone series and where to find their serial numbers.
DJI Mavic series - DJI Mavic 3/Mavic 3 Cine
For the DJI Mavic 3, the serial number can be found on the sticker, which is located in the battery compartment. You can also see it on the barcode sticker on the original packaging.
DJI Mavic Air/ Air 2S
For the DJI Air or DJI Air 2S, you can find the serial number in the same places as it is on the previous series.
DJI Mavic Mini Series - DJI Mavic Mini Se / Mini 2
The serial number for this series can also be found in 2 places - on the sticker in the battery compartment and on the barcode sticker on the packaging.
DJI Mavic Pro Series - DJI Mavic 2 / Mavic 2 Pro / Mavic Pro Platinum / Mavic 2 Pro Zoom
The unique drone number is located in the battery compartment or on the gimbal axle on these series models.
DJI Phantom Series - Phantom 2
The serial number is located on the tail of the drone.
Phantom 3, 3 SE
For the Phantom 3 and Phantom 3 SE, the serial is on the bottom of the drone, and the gimbal S/N can be found on the gimbal board.
Phantom 4
For the Phantom 4 series, the serial number can be found in the battery compartment.
DJI Inspire Series - DJI Inspire 2
For Inspire 2, the serial number can be found on the tail of the drone.
DJI Inspire 1
For the Inspire 1 series, the serial number can be found on the tail and the gimbal serial number can be found on the gimbal axle.
DJI FPV Series
The serial number of the DJI FPV drone can be found in three places. On the outer packaging of the box and on a sticker in the battery compartment of the drone.
Where to find the DJI Enterprise serial number
Matrice 200 V2: The serial number is located below the expansion port on the tail
Matrice 300 RTK: The serial number is located in the front
Matrice 600 Pro: The serial number is located under the battery
Phantom 4 RTK and P4 Multispectral: The serial numbers are located in the battery compartment
Mavic 2 Enterprise Series and Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced: The serial numbers are located in the battery compartment
Zenmuse Z30, Senmuse X5S, Zenmuse H20, Zenmuse H20T and Zenmuse L1: The serial numbers are located on the gimbal axle
Zenmuse P1: The serial number is located on the camera cover
M2EA RTK module: The serial number is located on the bottom of the RTK module
